HOME >> WEDDING DRESSES & BRIDAL FASHION >> WEDDING DRESSES - MEDIEVIL Wedding Dresses - MedievilDuring Medievil times, wedding dresses might have been of any color, as white was not particularly in fashion during the Middle Ages. Silk was reserved for the upper classes. Brightly colored robes and gowns embellished with gold or silver thread was very popular among those who could afford it. Blue, rather than white, was the symbolic color of purity in medievil weddings. This is where the popular tradition today of wearing "something blue" arose. If you'd like a medievil style dress without forsaking wearing white, you can use blue as your accessorizing color. Many brides like the style of medievil wedding dresses but aren't committed to replicating an actual medievil wedding dress. Many contemporary wedding dress designers feature styles with a medievil feel.
For other brides, a "real" medievil wedding dress is all that will do. If this sounds like you, consider looking into a costumer who can provide replicas of medievil wedding dresses. For a variety of unique and custom made medievil wedding dresses (and gowns representing other eras), we recommend taking a look at Fairy Fashion. Lindsay Fleming, a Scottish design house, also creates custom replica wedding dresses for Medievil and other periods - but it takes six months for them to create your dream gown, so be sure to plan in advance.
